In July 2001, Lance E. Black and Jarid K. Love—both experts in Web development—brought a combined engineering, computer science, and business administration background and a handful of employees to the table as Xponential, Inc. These two were no neophytes: Lance, for example, remembers playing around with the Web when the protocols had names like Archie, Gopher, and Veronica; and he cut his Web teeth on the Mosaic browser in the early 90s. The name Xponential paid homage to the team's strength in development and the back-end process, but didn't indicate the other talents and services the company offered.
