As someone who enjoys and thrives when everything around is organized and in its place, I've found some very useful tools and rules to help me with accomplishing such a task.![]() 2. If you don't use it, get rid of it - This rule can be applied to your office or home. Do you really need 50 pens? When are you ever going to get the chance to go through that stack of magazines? When was the last time you used those old binders? Be honest with yourself and get rid of all the clutter one space at a time. If you're worried about being wasteful - donate to a local charity or recycle what can't be donated. 3. Schedule It - Don't expect that being organized will happen in one day. If you're really unorganized, you may want to schedule an entire day for a deap cleanse. But if you only have a few cluttered areas that need help, plan to take just 30 minutes each day to improve the space. After 30 minutes - or however much time you can spare - go back to what you were doing and leave the rest for the next day. In a week's time you'll have accomplished a big project. And remember: it's ok if it doesn't get done in one day. 4. Method Wipes - Part of being organized also involves a bit of cleanliness. My favorite one-stop cleaning tool is the Method Wipe (available in a variety of scents). Not only does it clean sticky spills, it disinfects highly germed areas such as a phone, keys, door handles and keyboard (give a few of those 50 pens a wipe-down too). It's also environmentally friendly. 5. Stay Organized - You might say, "Well, duh!" to this one, but the hardest part of being organized is staying that way. If you take something out of a drawer, put it back when you're done. If you have something to drink, throw away the can or put the glass in the dishwasher. When you get the mail, open it and immediatley put the junk mail in the recycle bin. If you do these things as soon as needed, you've eliminated the two-hour organizing project at the end of the week by taking one minute to put something where it belongs.
